10:00 am Program: Growing Citrus Trees

John Panzarella will be discussing his favorite varieties of citrus. What varieties grow well in our area, which are cold resistant and which are not. He will discuss the type of soil needed for planting in the ground and in pots. Since fertilization is important, he will talk about a fertilization schedule, how much and when.. He will also speak about root stock and root stock selections followed by a question and answer session.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangements. Our speaker is a recognized expert in Ikebana. She is going to present a workshop demonstrating the principles of Ikebana design. Bring tow bottles (Wine, Perrier water, etc.) to the meeting and design your own arrangement.

2016 Backyard Garden Tour will be held May 21st, 2016. The tour will include 5 backyard gardens in Quail Valley. The tour will be open from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Peggy Dhemecourt, Master Gardener and Master Naturalist, will share information on how to become a more environmentally friendly gardener.

10:00 am Program: Landscaping for Nature

Mary Karish, Master gardener and owner of Three Sisters Nursery, is going to teach us environmentally friendly Hugelkultur a form of Japanese gardening. This form of gardening reduces the need for water and fertilizing.

Tricia Bradbury, Fort Bend County Extension Agent, will talk to us about growing herbs and cooking with fresh herbs. She will share many recipes with our garden club.

Horticulture:  Members bring specimens from their yards to promote and share our love of gardening.

Recycle Swap Table:  Bring items that need a new home such as plants, cuttings, pots, gardening materials, magazines and catalogs.  If possible, label your plants.  Do not remove items until after the meeting, and take home any left over items.    

Club Aprons:  On sale at the check-in table for $15 each. 

Coffee Mugs:  Bring your favorite coffee mug to promote conservation. 

Enchanted Forest/Gardens discount cards - Please be sure to pick up your cards for the 2015-2016 QVGC season when you sign in at the entrance table.  Reminder - do not share your membership card with anyone!
